Discrimination – Your kind isn’t welcome here…
In Florida, workers have several protections from discrimination in the workplace.
First, in Florida, there is the Florida Civil Rights Act (FCRA). The Florida Civil Rights applies to any employer that has 15 or more employees for each working day in each of 20 or more calendar weeks in the current or preceding calendar year.
The FCRA protects Floridians from discrimination based on:
- Race
- Color
- Religion
- Sex
- Age
- Marital Status
- National origin
- Handicap
The Court may award for “mental anguish, loss of dignity, and other intangible injuries”. Punitive damages limited to $100,000. Back-pay is limited to two years prior to the filing of the charge.
